Féile Ceoil opens in Dean Crowe on Monday night

The annual Féile Ceoil na Scoileanna will take place in the Dean Crowe Theatre next week, opening on April 7 at 7pm.

The festival will be officially opened by Stiofán Ó Fearail, primary school teacher and fluent Irish speaker. Stiofáin is well known to young people throughout Ireland, having become an internet sensation with the ‘Wake me up’ video as Gaeilge which had two million hits on YouTube. Stiofáin is also lead singer with the traditional group Seo Linn and he teaches Irish in Coláiste Lurgan during the summer.

The 49th festival will run until Wednesday April 9 and entertainment will include singing, instrumental music, drama, verse speaking, mime, and dance. Pupils from primary schools all over the Midlands and the West of Ireland will be participating, with a total of 47 intems. The festival which is non-competitive, acts as a showcase displaying the varied talents of our school children. It provides a wonderful opportunity for children to showcase their creative talents in front of an audience.

This year’s festival will include matinées on Tuesday and Wednesday at 10.30am along with Monday’s opening evening event at 7pm.
