A night of modern jazz at Belvedere

New Jersey vibraphonist, Tony Miceli, recreates his classic Modern Jazz Quartet line-up for a new CD and Irish tour with a stellar cast of Irish musicians including guitar legend Louis Stewart.

The Tony Miceli Quartet - with Louis Stewart, play the music of the Modern Jazz Quartet at Belvedere House Gardens and Park on Saturday April 12.

It was often said that the Modern Jazz Quartet, formed in 1950s America (featuring members of the Dizzy Gillespie orchestra ) was a group that was laidback long before anybody coined the term.

Determined to bring jazz the respect afforded to classical musicians, John Lewis (piano ), Milt Jackson (vibraphone ), Percy Heath (double bass ), and Connie Kay (drums ) wore tuxedos, played concert halls rather than nightclubs, and delivered recitals rather than jams.

Fans both inside and outside the jazz loop simply referred to them as the MJQ. The band seduced listeners of all persuasions with a sound soulful, swinging, and bluesy all at once, becoming one of the most commercially popular jazz groups on the planet.

New Jersey’s Tony Miceli and his quartet celebrate a new CD and renditions of classic tunes like ‘Django’, ‘On Green Dolphin Street’, ‘Softly as in a Morning Sunrise’, and many more from the catalogue of this most legendary of jazz groups.

The Tony Miceli Quartet featuring the legendary Louis Stewart on guitar, Phil Ware on electric piano, Dave Redmond on double bass, John Daly on drums, and Tony Miceli himself on vibraphone, will perform for the first time ever at Belvedere House Gardens and Park on Saturday April 12 for what promises to be a truly memorable jazz experience from some of the greats of the jazz world.

Doors open at 7.30pm for 8pm start and tickets are priced at €16.
