Les Misérables - Student Edition gears up for opening night

In 2003, a group of talented youngsters from the Mullingar area were assembled by Sean Lynch, director of the Mullingar Arts Centre together with musical director, Angela Lynch. This group came to be known as Mullingar Student Players.

Incredibly, 10 years have passed since that first triumphant production of Les Misérables.

Now, to celebrate that tenth anniversary, the Mullingar Student Players will proudly present Les Misérables - Student Edition. This production will be running in the Mullingar Arts Centre from April 21-26.

Back in October 2013, Mullingar Arts Centre held open auditions for anyone 16 years and up in full-time education. “I hoped these open auditions would introduce a new generation to the grand and inspirational story that has touched the hearts of millions,” explained centre director Sean Lynch.

Les Misérables - Student Edition has been specially adapted to meet the needs of young performers. This author-approved edition has been abridged to a running time of just over two hours, while carefully maintaining the integrity of one the greatest musicals ever written.

The main cast include Daniel Egerton as Jean Valjean, Shane Bardon as Javert, Siofra O’Farrell as Fantine, Clelia Rossi as Eponine, Laura Allen as Cosette, James Craig as Marius, John Cooney as Thenardier, and Michaela Hogg as Madame Thenardier.

Other cast members include Dillion Long as Prouvaire, Sam Gilmartin as Feuilly, Ben Thompson as Joly and Ben Mullingan as Coureyrac. Anna Doolin, Eoin Hogan, Rebecca Heery, Rachel Thompson, Katie Reilly, and Caoimhe Kiernan also feature.

With Sean Lynch as director, Angela Lynch as musical director, and choreography by Aimee McManus, Victor Hugo’s international award-winning musical looks set to sweep its audience through an epic tale of passion and destruction, against the backdrop of a nation in the grip of revolution.
