The search for missing angler Daryl Burke (30 ) on Lough Ree continued yesterday (Thursday March 27 ) a week after Mr Burke and two other men entered the water when their 15ft Dory boat capsized near Yew Point close to Hodson Bay last Thursday evening.
The other two men were taken from the water last Thursday; David Warnock (27 ) passed away later that evening, and survivor John Trimble (60 ) has been critical in helping searchers find Mr Burke.
The three men had been part of a group of anglers from Portadown Pikers, Armagh who had planned to spend the weekend fishing on the lake
At the time of going to print (Thursday March 27 ) Mr Burke remained missing with the Lough Ree RNLI lifeboat, Gardaí, and Athlone Subaqua being aided by Alpha Dive Subaqua club in Meath, the Civil Defence, local anglers, and volunteers.
The search has now moved away from Yew Point, with the RNLI searching the mid lake, divers searching off Inishmore, and others walking the shore.
A spokesperson for Lough Ree RNLI said the amount of support and help over the last week has been overwhelming. Subaqua clubs from Athlone, Lanesborough, and further afield have given their time, as have local anglers and volunteers. Food donations from The Coosan Tavern, Supermacs, and members of the public, as well as the generosity of Baysports and other businesses around Lough Ree have been a huge help.
