Funeral of Cornafulla crash victim to take place on Sunday

Gardaí are still appealing for witnesses after a 49-year-old woman died in a car accident in Cornafulla on Monday. 

The funeral of Mariola Kochanska, a native of Grudziadz, Poland who lived in Ballinasloe, takes place this Sunday March 30 in St Michael’s Church, Ballinasloe at 3pm. Burial will take place in her home town in Poland. 

She died when the car she was driving was involved in a head-on collision with a taxi on the N6 close to Cornafulla at around 9am on Monday morning. 

She was brought by ambulance to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The male driver of the other car involved in the collision was also brought to hospital with what were reported to be non-life threatening injuries. A number of ambulances and units of the local fire brigade attended the scene. 

Tributes were paid this week to Ms Kochanska, who worked in the Carlton Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe since 2007. She had lived in the town with her family for several years.
