Views sought on the future of RTÉ transmitter at Moydrum

A public meeting to discuss the possible tourism potential and other uses for the RTÉ transmitter site in Moydrum will take place in the Sheraton Athlone Hotel on Wednesday March 26 at 7.30pm.

Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting which is being organised by the Athlone Marconi Centre Heritage Group.

The Marconi transmitter in Moydrum first came into use in 1932 when Irish broadcasting was in its infancy and still survives in its original location. It is possibly the oldest surviving transmitter of its type in the world.

The meeting is being organised as part of a feasibility study looking at potential visitor, educational, and recreational uses for the site. The feasibility study, with support from Westmeath Community Development Limited through the Rural Development (LEADER ) Programme, and Athlone Town Council is being conducted by TTC - Tourism & Transport Consult International.

The meeting will take place on Wednesday March 26 at the Sheraton Athlone Hotel, at 7.30pm.

All are welcome.
