Midterm madness at Athlone Castle

Looking for something to do during the mid-term? Athlone Castle Visitor Centre is running an excellent offer on their admissions. From Saturday February 15 to Sunday February 23 all under 15s visiting the castle will be free of charge and all other single entry tickets will be only €4.

Joanna Grobosz, heritage guide at Athlone Castle explains “This mid-term break we give you a great opportunity to explore the castle at this discounted rate. With all the fun, interactive panels, stunning models of the people of the siege and impressive audio-visual presentation Athlone Castle is a must-see for all ages. So bring your family and friends and show off this wonderful amenity on your doorstep.”

The 13th century castle has undergone extensive renovations and is now an engaging, fun, and unique attraction for the whole family.

There is plenty to see and do as you guide yourself through the eight exhibition spaces. You will have a chance to test your strength at some medieval weapons and practice leadership skills in a capture the castle game.

Educational narratives and the spectacular Siege 360 degree audioscape immerse visitors in the fascinating story of the town. Next take some time to explore the courtyard and get up close to the mortars and cannons. Walk in the footsteps of Athlone’s defenders on battlements and admire the panoramic view of the town.

When you have finished exploring, relax in the Castle’s café, the perfect place to unwind and get a chance to investigate some of the artefacts from the museum’s collection of objects for handling with museum educators.

After exploring the castle, why not take a stroll across to the Luan Gallery which has two great exhibitions on at the moment: DE_Cline by Paul Quast and Soul Space by Dympna Bonfield. There is no charge to visit the gallery.
