Roses set to Bloom in Mullingar

The 2013 Rose of Tralee paid a flying visit to Mullingar last week to launch the 2014 Westmeath Rose competition.

The event which will be held in the Annebrook House Hotel on April 5 returns to Mullingar having been held in Athlone for a number of years.

Rose of Tralee Haley O’Sullivan who represented Texas at the international festival was also accompanied by the current Westmeath Rose Shauna Coyne from Milltownpass. Shauna, while speaking about her term as Westmeath Rose, expressed her delight at being chosen and also spoke about some of the events she had the honour of attending.

However her year is far from finished as she embarks on two once in a lifetime trips, the first being to volunteer in an orphanage in Chernobyl with Adi Roache’s Chernobyl Children International charity. And in March this year Shauna will head Stateside where she, along with her fellow Roses and escorts, will march in the New York’s St Patrick’s Day parade.

“This has just been such a wonderful experience. I made so many friends and got the chance to experience so much as the Westmeath Rose,” explained Shauna “I would genuinely encourage every young man and woman to get involved with the festival as it is such a brilliant experience and one I will treasure for the rest of my life.”

The organising committee have revealed that there has been significant interest in the event already and are really looking forward to the April 5 selection in the Annebrook House Hotel.

Haley O’Sullivan also expressed her desire to return to Mullingar for the selection night. Anybody interested in entering this year’s Westmeath Rose is encouraged to contact the organisers at [email protected] or find on facebook and send a private message or contact them at (087 ) 3942449.
