Hogan approves €4m for Roscommon water scheme

Funding of almost €4 million has been approved for improvements to two water schemes in Roscommon.

The Boyle/ Ardcarne and Arigna Water Supply Schemes are set to benefit from the funding, with work on the construction of pipework due to commence as quickly as possible.

The contract for €3.976 million has been awarded by Roscommon County Council to P & D Lydon Planthire Ltd.

Announcing the funding on Wednesday this week, Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan said: “This vitally important project is being funded under my Department’s Water Services Investment Programme 2010-2013.

“My approval reflects the commitment in the programme for Government that our public drinking water supplies will deliver a reliable service that is compliant with drinking water standards. In this case, the proposed scheme will ensure that consumers in the Arigna and Boyle/ Ardcarne areas will have a high quality water supply that will have capacity to meet current and future needs.

“In the case of the Arigna and Boyle/Ardcarne water supply schemes, my approval of the necessary funding for this contract allows Roscommon County Council complete the contract formalities with the successful tenderer so that the works can start on this contract as soon as possible.”
