Next Thursday December 5 will see Our Lady’s Bower, Athlone host a festive charity bazaar in aid of local charity Rachel’s Wish to Walk.
A group of Transition Year students will run the bazaar which will include a jumble sale, auction, tombola, cakes and tea, games, spot prizes, as well as plenty of fantastic Christmas gift ideas. Shoppers will be treated to an array of stands including handbag, jewellery, cosmetic, cake, toy, and plant stalls. You can also treat yourself to hair braiding, a nail bar, and some sweet and savoury treats.
The bazaar is in aid of Rachel’s Wish to Walk, a charity set up by Shelly Quinn, a teacher in Our Lady’s Bower for her daughter Rachel, whom she adopted from an orphanage in Russia in 2009.
Rachel, who is now five, has Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy which affects her lower limbs. It is hoped that an operation in the US will enable her to walk without a frame. A total of €60,000 will have to be raised in order to facilitate the operation.
The bazaar in Our Lady’s Bower will start at 7pm on December 5. There will also be a fundraising night of music in the Piano Bar, Athlone on Thursday December 12 at 9.30pm.
