The Left Bank Mall demonstrates very clearly the potential Athlone has for business growth - that’s according to Taoiseach Brian Cowen, who carried out the official opening of the mall yesterday.
“It is great to see there is still a real confidence about in the Athlone area,” said Mr Cowen, as he opened the mall before a large gathering of the business community in Athlone.
The Taoiseach spoke about the important role businesses play in the community.
“I am delighted to see new developments continuing in Athlone, especially regeneration projects like this one...Athlone has benefited greatly from investment over the last number of years and will continue to do so.”
He also paid tribute to the “business acumen and enterprising spirit” of the Kelly family. “You have been involved in business in the Midlands area for some 30 years and the area has benefited greatly from your hard work and determination,” he said.
The Left Bank Mall revamp began almost a year ago, and has seen an investment of over €5 million in the centre. It consists of 17 shops and over 100 car parking spaces.
Speaking at the launch, Damien Kelly, owner of the Left Bank Mall, said “At a time of great uncertainty, the launch of the Left Bank Mall not only outlines a significant investment in the west side of Athlone but also demonstrates the willingness of young entrepreneurs to start up their own businesses.”
The newly revamped Left Bank Mall represents a unique selection of boutiques and shops.
Snoozzz and Shoes stocks designer houseware, designer shoes from all over the world, and offers an interior design service.
Renowned award-winning photographer Corin Bishop has opened his first studio in the mall, and he provides a full portrait, wedding, and commercial service.
The Laser and Skin Clinic offers a comprehensive range of treatments to cater for a wide range of skin types and conditions, providing a wide range of non-surgical cosmetic treatments.
Local businesswoman Imelda Geraghty is to open Beehive, a unisex hair salon, offering Aveda products which are 97 per cent chemical free and eco-friendly. She will also be opening a new restaurant Road Less Travelled in the new year in the Left Bank Mall. This specialist restaurant will deal specifically with healthy eating options and will be perfect for those with sensitivities to certain food types.
Damien Kelly’s brother Conor will also be opening a new shop, Trizone, in the new year, which will be the only shop outside of Dublin dedicated to multi-sports products.
