Labour TD Willie Penrose has welcomed an allocation of €19,000 in grant funding to projects in County Westmeath. The funding comes under the 2013 Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund.
The fund exists to assist small scale, non-profit environmental projects at a local level. A wide range of local initiatives were successful, including the Midlands Amenity Park, Cabrini Cahill, Yoyo Youth Café, and several national schools around the county.
Under this fund, money goes to a wide range of local initiatives, such as community gardens, public walkways, and composting workshops.
“I warmly congratulate all those local groups who have received funding, including schools, community development organisations, Tidy Towns organisations, environmental groups and others. This funding will support the dedicated hard work and community spirit shown by all these groups,” said Deputy Penrose.
“The funding from central government will be matched by Westmeath County Council, bringing the total overall allocation for groups in Westmeath to €19,000, a not inconsiderable sum.”
