Moate library was officially opened yesterday by the Chairman of Westmeath County Council, Cllr Joe Whelan. After many years in the Courthouse, in less than suitable conditions, the library has now been relocated to bright new fully accessible premises on the Main Street in Moate.
Four times larger than the old premises, it will offer its current readers and the many new members who will join a much improved level of service. The book-stock has been substantially increased and the library will also provide public computers to provide access to e-mail, and other internet based resources. Newspapers, music CDs, and language courses have also been added to the stock. There is also study space and a young children’s corner where mothers and toddlers can enjoy reading together.
The opening hours have been improved with the library now open five days a week including late opening two nights per week and two lunchtime openings.
Lorna Farrell, library assistant, is looking forward to seeing and meeting the needs of the existing members and the many new members whom she hopes will join the new library.
