The town of Moate is abuzz with speculation after it was revealed that a €0.5 million winning ticket for Tuesday’s Daily Million Lotto draw was sold in Buckley’s SuperValu in the town.
A spokesperson for the National Lottery confirmed that the jackpot was won by a €6 Quick Pick purchased in the supermarket on Tuesday.
The €500,000 prize has not yet been collected, leading to great speculation among staff and locals as to who the mystery ‘half millionaire’ might be.
Manager of Buckley’s SuperValu, Caroline Cashen said the news of the win was “creating a great bit of banter” in the store.
“We are trying to figure out who bought it - it’s the talk of the place. Everyone here is wondering if they were the one who sold the ticket!” said Ms Cashen.
“A lot of our regular customers do the Daily Millions. We are hoping it’s someone local, and that they will come forward so we can share in the celebrations,” she added.
The win is the first big jackpot to be won in the Moate supermarket.
