A major fundraising event will take place in Glasson Golf and Country Club on Monday October 21.
A night of music and dancing will be hosted featuring TR Dallas wth guest artists Brendan Shine, Frank Nelson, Pascal Brennan, and Audrey Murphy. Entry is €10 and tickets can be obtained from any committee member or at the door.
This event will incorporate heats in the search for the region’s best waltzes and jivers. Qualifiers will go forward to a grand final in The Well, Moate on October 27.
The aim of the competition is to raise money for South Westmeath Hospice and the Irish Cancer Society, two very important and worthy charities who are doing tremendous work behind the scenes.
Heats have already been held in Egan’s Marquee, Mount Temple, Murray’s Maghera, The Rustic Inn Abbeyshrule, and The Well Moate.
Some three years ago Pat Carty from Ballinacliffey in Tubberclair had an idea that a waltzing competition should be initiated in a well-known local country licensed premises namely Murray’s of Maghera. Over the past two years interest in this competition and dancing in general has increased dramatically.
To mark the year of The Gathering, an expanded committee was formed this year and the competition has been extended across the Midlands region and beyond.
