Live concert and instrument-making workshop

US multi-instrumentalist Le Ton Mité will be hosting an instrument-making workshop and performing live in Making Space Studios, Athlone on Saturday October 19 with support from Fergal Cox and Fergie Milton as well as Galway’s Declan Q Kelly.

Making Space Studios (located at 15 Custume Place, over Burgess Department Store ) is delighted to welcome Le Ton Mité to Athlone with the night’s activities kicking off with a special instrument-making workshop at 7pm and live music to begin at 8.30pm.

After many years of activity in the American independent music scene from Olympia, Washington, Le Ton Mité lived a clandestine life in France and abroad before finding roots in Belgium.

From 7-8pm McCloud Zicmuse will lead a workshop building a strange and unique instrument of his own concoction called the iaeniaen. The instrument was born of necessity when McCloud found himself instrument-less on an art residency. He gathered whatever materials were to hand and the iaeniaen was born. Now he incorporates these public workshops into his musical travels to “share the joy of making one’s own instrument, and the music that can be made with it in the context of the Instant Instrument Workshop”.

Materials will be provided, but please feel free to bring along any bits and pieces you think may be incorporated somehow. All participants in the workshop are invited to perform with their instruments at the gig, but there’s no obligation to do so whatsoever.

Support on the evening comes from Fergal Cox who combines brilliant musicianship with exceptional original songs and has just completed the recording of his debut album which will be released next year. Accompanying him on the night will be Fergie Milton, one of the finest guitarists the region has produced.

Completing the line-up is Galway native Declan Q Kelly, who will kick off the evening with his special blend of improvised banjo and various magic noises.

The whole evening is just €5, and will commence at 7pm but if the workshop isn't your thing doors will be open from 7pm and live music will kick off at 8.30pm. For further information contact Making Space Studios on (087 ) 7793780.
