Athlone Community Radio have partnered with Athlone Animal Welfare for Radio Rocks, a night of great entertainment by local musicians. Radio Rocks will take place on Friday October 4 to help raise awareness and funds for both the voluntary radio station and their charity of choice, Athlone Animal Welfare.
Radio Rocks will take place at Harvey’s Bar with a great line-up including local artists Aoife Doolan, Shawn Allen, Spraoi Óg, The Disconnected Bliss, Brian Goggin, and Neil Moran, among others. Athlone Community Radio 88.4fm is a non-profit community project, broadcasting to Athlone and surrounding areas. They give a voice to community and voluntary organisations, and cover all local issues pertaining to Athlone. This year their chosen charity is Athlone Animal Welfare (AAW ), a local, voluntary, non-profit organisation that strives to prevent the neglect and mistreatment of animals, encourage responsible pet ownership, and raise awareness on key animal welfare issues.
As well as rehoming cats and kittens through the cattery facility, AAW deliver free educational workshops; support Trap, Neuter and Release (TNR ) schemes; facilitate neuter campaigns; and provide assistance to injured strays.
The AAW cattery is currently at maximum capacity, with a surge in demand in the last few months due to breeding season. Loving homes are urgently needed for cats and kittens in their care, so if you are considering adopting a pet please contact them or check out their website or Facebook page for details. AAW have received a phenomenal number of calls this year for assistance with stray and feral cats and kittens and are urgently in need of funds to help support Trap, Neuter and Release schemes to help prevent growth of these cat colonies and maintain the health of the existing populations. Funds raised for AAW through Radio Rocks will help support ongoing TNR projects in the town.
