To mark the last weekend of Blue September, Whelehans Pharmacy in Mullingar are holding free men’s check-ups as part of their ‘Blue Weekend’ this weekend (Friday and Saturday September 27 and 28 ). For their Blue Weekend, the staff of Whelehans will be dressing in blue and there will be competitions and fun events for men. So ladies, get your men down to Whelehans this weekend for a free health check. There is no excuse!
Pharmacist Eamonn Brady from Whelehans explains: “Blue September aims to highlight the risk of testicular cancer in men. A sad fact is that while one in four women are diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, the rate for men is one in three. It is time for men to take their health seriously.” Eamonn explains “Evidence shows that men are 70 per cent less likely than women to visit their GP or get a medical check-up when there is something wrong. Men will get their car serviced annually, but many will not get a more important check-up, from their GP.”
To highlight this problem, Whelehans are holding free check-ups this weekend for men only to encourage them to take the first step and get their health checked. Free check-ups available this weekend include blood pressure, BMI, diabetes, and haemoglobin checks. While it is important that men then go to their GP to get a full check-up, Whelehans hope that their checks may be the first step for many. The check-ups at Whelehans will only take 10 minutes, so call in today. If there is a health issue bugging you, this could be a chance to discuss it with a pharmacist and it is all free of charge.
