A stiff warning from the Boxer to the manager

Athlone town councillers had to make the arduous trip to Mullingar on Wednesday evening (September 18 ) for a meeting about the Athlone Town Development Plan, something they were not happy about.

“We are not coming to Mullingar every time we have to meet with Westmeath County Council. I give you stiff warning, county manager. I want the situation rectified,” said Cllr Kevin “Boxer” Moran, before the meeting began officially.

County manager,Barry Kehoe, told the town council that it was an improvement to have a single plan for Athlone, with respect to the county and town council, and he expressed his hopes that next year there would be communications between Westmeath and Roscommon County Council to produce a single plan for the areas of Athlone covered in both counties.

To facilitate the two authorities discussing the town plan, members were asked to propose only on issues within their remit but Mr Keheo encouraged them to comment on all matters and issues arising.
