Rocking to the summit for LARCC

We’ve all heard of charity runs and cycles. But how about a charity run, cycle, climb, and obstacle course?

This November LARCC Cancer Support Centre is looking for brave people to take on Westport’s Sea2Summit challenge and raise much-needed funds for the facility. Don’t worry, you won’t be doing it alone! Mullingar’s very own Bressie will also be taking on the course, along with some other well-known celebrities.

The second largest adventure race in the country, join up to 1,300 thrill seekers on November 9 in Westport, County Mayo for a mixture of road running, cycling, and of course hike up Croagh Patrick. There is a choice of race distances - the sprint event (27km ), supreme event (56km ), and the supreme relay event (956km ).

This year the Sea2Summit team have chosen LARCC as their charity partners, and as ambassador for LARCC Bressie is delighted to compete in Sea2Summit and raise funds for the Multyfarnham facility.

Bressie wants to progress LARCC as a holistic facility for those recovering from cancer, and their families. He also wants to support those who wish to raise funds for the charity through sporting events. LARCC’s website will soon include training and nutrition advice for everyone. Having recently trained the route with race director Paul O’Brien, Bressie has set his sights on the Westport Sea2Summit Supreme Event of 56km. “I’m really enjoying training for the event and it’s going to be a real challenge for me, especially the Croagh Patrick climb, but I’m competing for LARCC and it’s a fantastic charity so I’m going to cross the finish line for them.”

The LARCC Centre is a place of retreat, reflection, and recovery, which assists people with a cancer diagnosis and their supporters to cope with their illness. The residential programme within LARCC is designed to take clients on a person journey of relaxation, reflection, and recovery by skilled therapists, nurses, and councillors. The variety of therapies on offer and the ambiance of the centre provide clients with the opportunity to discuss their issues in a relaxed homely environment with staff members.

Join Bressie and 1,300 competitors for Westport Sea2Summit on Saturday November 9. Book your place for the last adventure race of the season on www.westportsea2summit.ie or follow sea2summit on Facebook and Twitter for updates.
