Former Dublin midfielder Paul Bealin has been appointed to replace Pat Flanagan as manager of the Lake County’s senior footballers.
The Ballyboden St Enda’s clubman won the All-Ireland in 1995 (a historic day for Westmeath’s minor footballers too ), before taking over as manager of Wexford in 2005. Bealin then went on to manage the Carlow senior side in 2007. He is currently manager of Parnells in Dublin.
Pat Flanagan deserves enormous credit for securing division one status, something that many would have deemed impossible two years ago, but after such poor showing in the championship, calls for a change of management grew louder. It seems rough on Flanagan but a new voice and new ideas might be what’s needed to get the best out of the young talent that is in the county. With that said retaining division one status looks a tall order regardless of who is in charge.
