Hurling takes centre stage this week with the two hurling semi-finals down for decision.
St Oliver Plunkett’s will be very much up against it when they take on reigning champions Clonkill in Cusack Park on Sunday at 2.30pm. The Mullingar side have been impressive at times in this year’s championship but will need to up their level of performance from their 2-16 to 0-14 quarter-final win over Castlepollard if they are to cause an upset here. It is hard to envisage anything other than a Clonkill win.
In the second semi-final also fixed for Cusack Park on Sunday Castletown Geoghegan will be hotly fancied to account for Lough Lene Gaels. The Gaels will relish the underdogs tag and while an upset cannot be ruled out I expect Niall O’Bien and co to have enough firepower to advance to the decider.
