Intermediate football round-up

Ballynacargy and Milltownpass have secured the automatic semi-final spots. St Malachy’s finish second in their group and take on Tang this Saturday in the quarter final. I was very impressed by Tang in our recent league outing where they finished with 15 points to spare and while St Malachy’s are also moving well I expect Paul Conway’s side to book a semi-final spot.

Tubberclair got the better of Shandonagh in their play-off game in Athlone on Wednesday night and their reward is a mouth-watering clash with neighbours Caulry in Moate on Sunday evening. This will be Tubberclair’s third championship game in a week which is bound to take its toll.

One of these years Caulry are going to get it right and win the intermediate title but like a horse with a string of seconds to its name they are better to stay clear of. For that reason I am going to give Tubberclair the nod.

Kilbeggan Shamrocks and Ballinagore contest the relegation decider this evening (Friday ) in Shandonagh. In what has been a disappointing year for both clubs Kilbeggan might just have enough firepower to avoid a quick return to junior football.
