Love, loyalty, and revolution - the new season of Athlone Film Club

The beginning of autumn marks a new season of films for Athlone Film Club. The season starts on a high note on Tuesday September 3 at 8pm in the Dean Crowe Theatre with the lavish and sumptuous costume drama from Denmark, A Royal Affair.

This compelling period drama is centred on the love triangle that developed between the increasingly unbalanced King Kristián VII of Denmark, his doctor Johann Struensee and the young Queen Karolina Mathilda. Audiences will be engaged by this sweeping historical epic about love, loyalty, and revolution.

It is a gripping tale of a brave idealist who risks everything in pursuit of freedom for the people. Above all it is the story of a passionate and forbidden romance that changed an entire nation.

A Royal Affair is just one in the exciting line-up of films that audiences will be treated to in the upcoming season. Audiences will experience a range of genres and films from around the world; from classics to comedy to contemporary.

What better way to banish those autumn blues than to be transported by the magic of the big screen in the Dean Crowe Theatre? Joining the club is easy, you can sign up for membership, which offers great value, on Tuesday September 3 before the film is screened. You can also avail of temporary membership on the night of any movie of your choice. Membership also includes a complementary glass of wine in the theatre bar at 7.30pm preceding the screening of the film, which is a great way to socialise and to discuss the upcoming movie.
