Mahatma Gandhi once said that “A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people” and this is very true of Westmeath, as for this year’s Culture Night on Friday September 20 over 45 free events will take place across the county.
In celebration of the thriving culture and entertainment events and venues throughout the county, Westmeath Arts Office will hold an official launch on Thursday September 5 at 6.30pm in the Atrium of the County Buildings in Mullingar where the colourful array of events that will be taking place on Culture Night will be announced.
Events on September 20 vary widely from the planned art trail in Moate to a viking boat tour in Athlone, from an art exhibition in the Garden Gallery in Delvin, to complimentary guided tours in Kilbeggan Distillery, and not forgetting yarn bombing in Mullingar and free guided tours of the majestic Belvedere House and Gardens. These are just a handful of this year’s Culture Night events which should not to be missed.
Officially launching Culture Night on September 5 will be the much loved actress Mary McEvoy and alongside the launch activities, Mullingar Camera Club will be unveiling their annual exhibition which will be on display in the Atrium throughout the month of September. Mullingar Harp School will provide musical harmony to what promises to be a celebratory night for the arts in Westmeath. All are very welcome on the night and proceedings will begin at 6.30pm sharp in the Atrium in the County Buildings in Mullingar.
