Look to the skies - Abbeyshrule to host annual air show

Abbeyshrule will once again play host to its popular air show this August 24-26 at the airfield in Co Longford.

The show starts on Saturday August 24 time with a fly-in by pilots and aircraft from all over Ireland. There will be a BBQ at the airfield that day along with a buffet that evening in the Rustic Inn. Local flying clubs Aero Club 2000 and Ultraflight will be offering trial flying lessons. The airfield will be open to the public, with a charge of €5 per car.

Trial flying lessons will also be offered before the main air display on Sunday August 25, with gates opening at 12.30pm on the day. The air display will feature all types of flying from the gentle and serene to the fast and furious.

Ireland’s top aerobatic pilots Dave Bruton, Eddie Goggins, and Gerry Humphreys will be showcasing their talent. Tandem sky divers will also drop in during the day and model aircrafts will be in action.

Plenty of family and kids entertainment has been organised for the day. Customs sniffer dog Ben will be giving demonstrations and visitors will have the chance to meet and talk to the display pilots. There will also be a banner-towing Woodfield mobile, and an open farm exhibition. Entry on Sunday will be €10 per person with no charge for children under 12. Entry fee on Sunday will include free car parking on the airfield and a free draw for a trial flying lesson.
