Westmeath ladies footballers had eight points to spare (1-15 to 1-7 ) after an impressive performance in which they made little of their underdog tag. Martin Flanagan’s side were full value for their win after a wholehearted and hardworking display.
Full-forward Fiona Leavy top-scored with 0-7, while Karen Hegarty got the all-important goal with 13 minutes remaining.
The win sets up a meeting with Mayo where once again Flanagan’s ladies will be aiming to upset the odds.
