RTÉ Concert Orchestra will bring some of their world-class musical enchantment to the Big Top part of the Galway Arts Festival on Saturday July 27.
Take this opportunity to visit the west coast and take in A Night At The Proms.
This special evening will be a rare opportunity for lovers of orchestral music, movie enthusiasts and fans of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra to come together for this rare chance to see the concert orchestra play to a standing crowd.
The RTÉ Concert Orchestra pride themselves on introducing audiences to orchestral music since 1948 and are delighted to be part of the first Night at the Proms. They have a wide diversity of audiences, from performing Messiah to Pope Benedict XVI in 2009, to mesmerising wellington - wearing festival attendees at Electric Picnic. They also performed at that electrifying Eurovision interval which gave birth to Riverdance.
Music to be expected on the night includes compositions from the revered John Williams including his soaring ‘Superman March’, and ‘ET Adventures on Earth’. A selection of melodies from one of the most prolific film composers of the century, Ennio Morricone, will be heard, including the haunting ‘Oboe’ from ‘The Mission’, the iconic ‘Once Upon a Time In America’ and ‘The Good The Bad & The Ugly’. The classics can also be relived - ‘Chariots of Fire’ from Vangelis, the James Bond theme by Monty Norman, Bill Conti’s ‘Rocky’, ‘That’s Entertainment!’ in a tribute to MGM. And for something that little bit different the orchestra will be adding their unique touch to ‘Shaft’ by Issac Hayes.
