It might not be on until September, but Westmeath Arts Office are already looking for volunteers for this year’s Culture Night.
Culture Night (and day ) is due to take place on Friday September 20 but plans are already being put in place for the annual event.
Volunteers wishing to get involved will become Culture Night Ambassadors. They will be trained to coordinate ‘on the ground’ with local venues across Westmeath as well as community groups, arts groups, and practitioners in regard to Culture Night events.
They will assist groups in adhering to deadlines for submitting information to maximise coverage (eg Gathering details, photos, etc ) as well as maintain regular contact with participants to ensure they feel part of a wider network of cultural agents.
Volunteers will also need to liaise with the Westmeath Arts Office to provide regular feedback on events and activities.
This is likely to be a part-time volunteering role - the Culture Night Ambassador is someone who lives in and knows a particular locality or town in Westmeath, and ideally (but not essentially ) is someone who knows some of the venues, people, or groups working within culture and the arts in that locality.
The time commitment is likely to be a pre-agreed number of hours weekly from commencement date through to Culture Night, Friday September 20.
As this is not a paid position, there will be flexibility in these arrangements, but consistency of contact with the various organisers and participants will be important. The Cultural Ambassadors will be recognised and acknowledged for their role and contribution by way of a thank-you ceremony by the Westmeath Arts Office after Culture Night.
Volunteers are needed in Athlone, Mullingar, Moate, Castlepollard, and Kinnegad.
Reliability and good time-keeping skills, good verbal communication and organisational skills, an ability to work on your own and as part of a team, and an ability to use your initiative are all desirable qualities for this position.
