Less than two weeks to SUSI deadline - Naughten

Local TD Denis Naughten is reminding local students that there are just under two weeks left to apply for a higher education grant for the 2013/2014 academic year.

“The closing date this year is a month earlier to facilitate earlier application and decision-making, and applications must be received by SUSI by Thursday August 1,” explained Deputy Naughten.

“My advice to students is to get your application in as soon as possible, regardless of whether you know what course you will be attending.”

A number of measures have been taken in an effort to avoid the massive delays experienced by students last year, including developing both the online application system and the application assessment. Direct information sharing between SUSI and other government agencies is also aimed at reducing the amount of documentation that students will need to provide for their application to be processed.

“What occurred last year was completely unacceptable and I welcome the new measures aimed at improving the grant application process for students and their families,” added Deputy Naughten.

“I would now urge students to submit their applications as soon as possible in the hope of avoiding any unnecessary delays.”
