Three Westmeath companies exported goods to the value of €615 million in the past year, placing them in Ireland’s top 250 exporters for 2013.
The three companies, Athlone Extrusions, Teleflex Medical, and KCI Medical Resources - all based in Athlone - were named as particular successes this week by the Irish Exporters Association (IEA ) in the life sciences and manufacturing sectors.
All three appeared in the IEA and Investec’s 2013 edition of the Top 250 Exporters in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Teleflex Medical Europe Ltd came in at number 87 on the list, with €289m exports in the life sciences sector. KCI Medical Resources was named at number 93, with €276m in exports in the same sector.
Meanwhile Athlone Extrusions, at number 217 on the list, accounted for €50m of exports in the manufacturing sector.
Software manufacturer and designer Microsoft was named the largest exporting company in Ireland, with €13,712m in exports, moving up one place from its previous year’s ranking. It was followed closely by Google with exports of €12,457m, Johnson & Johnson at €10,500m, and Dell at €9,900m.
Of the top 20 companies listed, 10 are in the ICT area, maintaining Ireland’s place as the second largest exporter of computer and IT services in the world.
The top exporter in the food and drink sector is the Kerry Group with exports of €5.7m, while Johnson & Johnson tops the life sciences sector.
