Midlands Simon Community are asking for people to show their solidarity for those experiencing homelessness in Athlone by joining their team for this year’s 5km Stroll for Simon.
The event takes place on Friday July 26, and starts at 4.30pm from Athlone Institute of Technology, going up by Garrycastle Bridge, down through Retreat, into Athlone, and back onto the Dublin Road towards the college.
The stroll is designed to increase awareness around homelessness, while supporting those in our community who need our help. It is open to anyone who can walk, hop, or crawl the 5km course!
Speaking about the event, CEO of Midlands Simon Community, Tony O’Riordan, said, “We are using the Stroll for Simon to highlight the fact that the Midlands Simon Community is here to face challenges with all those who need our help, and that by working together we can overcome these challenges and continue to provide all the supports necessary to enable people to move out of homelessness and into a permanent home.
“As a voluntary organisation we are dependent on the goodwill and support of the wider community to fund our work.”
Last week, 16 volunteers took part in the Sleep out for Simon at Kilmartins N6 service station, raising over €3,000 to help eliminate homelessness in the Midlands.
If you would like to take part in the Stroll for Simon or sponsor any of the team members please call the event co-ordinator Sarah Louise on (087 ) 2287850, or email [email protected].
