Fr Mathew Hall to be filled with the sounds of Count John McCormack

To celebrate National Music Day, Luan Gallery, Athlone presents Renditions Remastered: a recital of John McCormack’s repertoires with baritone Darren O’Hara.

Love: Live Music - the name for Ireland’s National Music Day on June 21 is an all-inclusive celebration of live music-making in Ireland featuring a whole day and night of free live music events in villages, towns, and cities across the country.

In Athlone, the birthplace of John McCormack, local baritone Darren O’Hara will pay tribute to Ireland’s original tenor accompanied by musician Thom O’Neill. Performing some of McCormack’s greatest songs from 5.30pm in Luan Gallery’s library gallery, familiar songs such as ‘The Tumble-Down Shack’ in Athlone will be amongst the repertoire. A most fitting venue for such an event, Luan Gallery’s library gallery is housed in the original Father Mathew Hall, where John McCormack frequently performed in the past.

Darren O’Hara will be singing in the new surroundings of Luan Gallery’s current exhibition - Remastered works of original fine art print from Graphic Studio Dublin’s Visiting Artist Programme. On this upcoming celebration of art and music Darren said: “It is truly an honour to pay tribute to the late John Count McCormack and have the opportunity to perform in the original Fr Mathew Hall on this National Music Day. This will truly be a humbling experience for me.”

Renditions Remastered is a free musical event in Luan Gallery on Friday June 21 at 5.30pm. All are welcome. Remastered: works from the Graphic Studio Dublin’s Visiting Artist Programme runs until June 29.
