Athlone and Multyfarnham were recognised as holding Leinster’s best restaurant and best casual dining experience respectively, at this week’s Irish Restaurant Awards.
Westmeath brought home four awards in total including the prestigious Best Restaurant award for Leinster.
An Tintáin Restaurant in Multyfarnham came home with the Best Casual Dining in Leinster award. Owned by chef Paul Murphy, he said it was a great scoop for the small village in the north of the county. “We had no expectation of winning, but we were sort of hoping. We do everything fresh and have great pride in what we do, so it’s great when other people recognise it,” he said.
Based in the heart of Athlone, on the banks of the Shannon, Thyme Restaurant has grown to become one of the town’s firm favourites and being awarded Best Restaurant is sure to see its popularity grow.
Also on the banks of the Shannon, The Olive Grove, Athlone won the Best Kids Size Me Award while the Sheraton Athlone won the Engaging With The Gathering Award.
