Luan Gallery presents A Print Series with Graphic Studio Dublin

To accompany Remastered the current exhibition of fine art print from Graphic Studio Dublin’s Visiting Artist Programme, Luan Gallery, Athlone presents A Print Series as part of the gallery’s access and education curriculum.

Following on from the success of A Grand Series in April, A Print Series turns focus to printing techniques and processes. Featuring a talk by Robert Russell, Director of Graphic Studio Dublin, and practical print workshops facilitated by current studio members Claire Henderson and Niamh Flanagan, the technicalities and products of fine art print will be explored.

Established in 1960 to promote printmaking and foster traditional print techniques, Graphic Studio Dublin is the oldest fine art print studio in Ireland. Facilitating an array of print techniques including etching, linocut, drypoint, carborundum, woodblock, aquatint, and collography - technical assistance and artists’ education is core to their ethos.

On Thursday June 20, Russell will launch the series with a lunchtime talk introducing Graphic Studio Dublin and the Visiting Artist Programme. Focusing on the main print techniques used at the studio he will utilise the works in the Remastered exhibition to illustrate his discussion. This will be followed by a practical demonstration of how an intaglio print is made.

On Wednesday June 26, the Mobile Print Project will take over Luan Gallery. This mobile educational initiative was set up by artists Clare Henderson and Niamh Flanagan to demonstrate and teach printmaking skills in schools. Beginning with a kids’ monoprint workshop, participants will be introduced to printmaking as an art practice and produce a monoprint of their own.

This event will be followed by a drypoint workshop for adults during which participants will be introduced to the medium of drypoint with a brief talk and demonstration and leave the workshop with a professionally finished printed piece.

“We are delighted with the response since the opening of Remastered and are looking forward to engaging with current studio members. These workshops will provide an insightful look into the fascinating process of printmaking suitable for beginners and advanced artists,” said Mairead Cunningham of Luan Gallery.

Remastered runs until Saturday June 29.

Luan Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11am-5pm and Sundays 12-5pm.

All places for A Print Series are limited, pre-booking is required on (090 ) 6442154.
