Westmeath have been drawn away to London in the preliminary round of the hurling qualifiers in a game fixed for Ruislip on Saturday June 22. There was a time when playing London in either code was a formality but not so any more. Just ask anyone from Sligo.
The footballers shock win over Sligo is a timely warning against complacency. Club hurling in London was never stronger than at present and Westmeath will need to be on tune to advance. The prize on offer is a showdown with either Waterford or Offaly in the next round.
