The recent tendency for music nostalgia is to go one further next Saturday June 8, with the news that local legend Bressie is to play DJ support to the aptly named retro band Smash Hits in a fundraising gig at the Bloomfield House Hotel.
The 90s Reunion Disco is in aid of the very worthwhile Lakelands Area Retreat and Cancer Care (LARCC ) in Multyfarnham, of which Niall Breslin is a patron.
The idea for the nostalgia gig came about after a conversation with a number of patrons from John Dalys, and with one Head in particular, whilst on holiday in the Canaries.
“We were out in Lanzarote while Bressie was training for a triathlon, and we thought a 90s disco would be a good idea. Then the other fella saw Smash Hits at a gig, and they decided to roll in with us,” said a spokesperson for the organising committee.
Tickets are just €15 each, and are available in Rochforts, Wilfs, Dalys, and the Bloomfield itself.
At going to press almost 200 tickets have already been sold, and with a limit of 460 on the Bloomfield dance floor, patrons are reminded to get a wriggle on to one of the four vendors before they are disappointed.
There is a dress code, but as this is the 90s Reunion Disco, patrons will be unsurprised they have been asked to go bright, with maybe a hint of glo-stick and neon.
According to their blurb, Smash Hits are “like so totally the ultimate 90s band” and will bop you round the house with everything from MC Hammer to House of Pain.
So if you can’t touch this, or would just like to jump around for a while, make your way to the Bloomfield next Saturday night from 9pm.
