Roscommon comes alive at the end of May with a 10 day festival to coincide with The Gathering. “The Return of the Rossies” is Roscommon’s flagship Gathering event in association with Roscommon County Council.
Taking place in Lough Key Forest Park, the festival line-up includes Tommy Fleming and orchestra in concert, up and coming Irish band Hamsandwich also take to the stage, while a weekend of hot-air ballooning also promises to wow young and old, visitor and locals alike.
Tommy Fleming’s performance on Saturday May 25 is a unique opportunity for fans to see the singer perform with full orchestral accompaniment in a show that won him much critical acclaim across the UK last year. The singer, who has just embarked on a month long tour of Australia, flies home for this Roscommon gig which takes place in the walled garden at Lough Key Forest Park, the finale of which will be a fireworks display in the park.
Irish band Hamsandwich play Lough Key on Sunday May 26. One of the most enthralling live acts of recent time, they are well known for their dynamic live performances. With everything from balloons and confetti to their unique crowd interaction each show is a bona fide celebration of this band’s raw talent, fun, and energy.
The skies around the county will be filled with hot air balloons during the festival as enthusiasts from all around the world take to the air with balloons of all shapes, colours, and sizes for the weekend. The festival marks their return to Boyle, 20 years on from their last visit. Their visit coincides with a planned international re-union of Roscommon societies, Lough Key’s participation in BioBlitz, family fun days, a series of military events, and performances celebrating the Connaught Rangers and the launch of Boyle 400.
Throughout the week, events continue with Boyle Musical Society’s celebration of 30 years in existence, Boyle Arts Festival bringing music and film to the town, a rambling bus tour to Roscommon’s four historic houses, angling events, Arigna mining family day, walks, a farmers market, and of course a trail of live music events in pubs up and down the town.
