Roscommon woman attends Ireland’s first political campaign school

Miriam Hennessy from Roscommon has attended Ireland’s first political campaign school EQUIP run by Women for Election in Athlone. The national organisation provides training and support to women from all backgrounds interested in a career in politics. Women for Election brought 20 women from various political parties and backgrounds from across Ireland to complete the three day residential programme in the Radisson Blu, Athlone.

Speaking about participating in the programme, Miriam said, “I am hugely interested in environmental issues and am a representative for the Environmental Pillar at the Board of the County Roscommon Integrated Local Development. I am also the Good Energy Alliance Ireland represntative and very active in the anti-fracking campaign. As a member of the Green Party I am interested in contesting an election in the future and EQUIP gave me practical information, skills and training from a variety of really interesting trainers.”

Any woman interested in running for election or getting involved in a campaign can attend one day INSPIRE programme, with upcoming days in Galway in June and Dublin in September.
