Moate students need the public’s votes

A group of students from Moate Community College were ecstatic at the news that their environmental action project was one of the 70 groups across the Republic and Northern Ireland shortlisted for ECO-UNESCO’s Young Environmentalist Awards showcase and ceremony in the Mansion House on May 22.

While the group is now preparing for the final and hoping to impress the judges enough to scoop one of the 10 category prizes, they are also seeking the public’s support with their projects,

Until May 10 these young environmentalists are looking for the public’s vote to help them lay claim to the prestigious ECO-UNESCO People's Choice Award.

The People’s Choice Award is the one award that the judges have no say in, with the public having all the power! The shortlisted projects range from constructing greenhouses out of plastic bottles to sustainably running outdoor festivals and the public can now vote for their favourite at www.ecounesco.ie

Speaking about the People's Choice Awards, national director of ECO-UNESCO Elaine Nevin commented, “We’re delighted that the public can get involved with the Young Environmentalists in such an interactive and fun capacity and have their say on the projects. Given the excellent standard of the projects and the hard work and innovation behind each, voters are going to be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing their favourite. I wish all the finalists the best of luck!”
