Athlone IT students shortlisted in DARE2BDRINKAWARE.ie film competition

Two Athlone IT students have been shortlisted in a prestigious national student film competition. Cat Mooney, from Athleague, Co Roscommon and Mary Stevenson, from Kinnitty, Co Offaly, have been shortlisted for prizes in the DARE2BDRINKAWARE.ie film competition, which is organised by the alcohol social responsibility organisation drinkaware.ie DARE2BDRINKAWARE.ie - now in its sixth year - challenges third-level students to creatively explore Irish people’s relationship to drinking through producing short films. The theme for the 2013 competition is ‘Pacing our Drinking’.

Ten films - produced by students from throughout Ireland - have been shortlisted for the 2013 competition, including Reality Realised, produced by Cat Mooney and Mary Stevenson.

Cat and Mary attended a special media event at the Temple Bar Gallery and Studios in Dublin city centre earlier this week when the shortlist was officially announced. Their film depicts the story of a girl who recalls her night out drinking only to realise that her recollection is not as glamorous as she would like to think it was at the time.

A prize fund of €5,000 will be awarded to winning entries. One prize will be awarded for a special public vote: all shortlisted entries are now available to view online, and members of the public can vote for their favourite until 5pm on Tuesday April 23.
