Members of the public aged 18 or over are invited to participate in this year’s European People’s Festival from July 20-27.
There are a number of spaces left on the Athlone/Irish European Festival team which will travel to Schifflange, Luxembourg.
Adults interested in basketball, tennis, table tennis, soccer, skateboarding, BMX, treasure hunts, performance, music, cookery, or photography are asked to espress their interest, outlining skills and experience to town clerk of Athlone Town Council, Civic Centre, Church Street, Athlone no later than 5pm on Friday May 3. Interested parties can also email [email protected] referencing European People’s Festival.
Over 700 participants from 15 European countries will attend for the week as they compete in sport, art, photography, and street theatre events. Cultural performances, cookery demonstrations, and a promotional Euro village - where countries will showcase their food and drink products, promotional literature, souvenirs, and crafts of their homelands - will contribute to the festival atmosphere.
The organisers of the Irish/Athlone team are now looking for some new faces to join the festival as some new events have been announced. The committee would like to see participants for every event and are asking the public to get in touch.
An Athlone Town Council - subsidised participation fee of approximately €250 will apply per person which will cover travel to and from the festival, food, accomodation, team t-shirt, festival membership fee, and group travel insurance.
