Westmeath supporters draw to act as division 2 final curtain-raiser

To celebrate the county’s return to division 1 football, the Westmeath Football Supporter’s Group’s 13th annual fundraising draw has been deferred for a fortnight to April 25.

“The draw will now take place on Thursday April 25, just two days before Westmeath’s participation in the divison 2 final at Croke Park,” said chairman Cllr Paul Daly.

“It was felt this was a more appropriate date, as having the draw on this night would add to the build up towards the eagerly anticipated league final on the following Sunday,” he pointed out.

Last weekend the footballers won an impressive promotion back to the top table with a game in hand, and did this by overturning five half-time deficits.

Next season the county will play in division 1 for the first time since 2009.

“Westmeath Supporters Group would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the senior football team and their management on achieving promotion to division 1, and we’d also wish them every success in the final and the upcoming Leinster Championship,” Cllr Daly added.

The Westmeath Supporters Group has raised “well over €1 million for Westmeath football at all levels” since its inception.

Patrons can now avail of the new free information text service to keep up with team news and events, by simply texting their name to (087 ) 9652424.

Tickets will be available from group members up to the night of the draw, and details can be got on Facebook or from Cllr Paul Daly, chairman of the Westmeath Football Supporters Group on (086 ) 8314388.

The draw, which features a €10,000 first prize, will be made by manager Pat Flanagan at a venue in Mullingar to be announced.
