Those with spina bifida and their families and friends are encouraged to attend a start-up meeting aimed at establishing a Midlands branch of Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland (SBHI ).
The meeting takes place in Tuar Ard, Moate on Tuesday April 2 from 7-9pm.
The association reports that there has been a lot of interest from members in the Midlands region over the last 18 months in relation to setting up a Midlands branch. The midland counties of Westmeath, Longford, Offaly, and Laois are the only counties which do not have an active branch at present.
The branch services of the SBHI provide a vital link between members, the National Resource Centre, and the board of directors. Many of the branches organise valuable programmes such as computer training, life skills programmes, occupational and physiotherapy services, and activity-based events.
The association has over 4,000 members nationwide including those with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, their parents, siblings, family, friends, and carers.
A branch meeting also provides an opportunity for members, parents, and friends to exchange support and guidance, and to bring about change by lobbying issues with their committee.
The aim of the Moate meeting next Tuesday is to gauge interest and to outline how the branch may be of support to you and your family. The meeting will be facilitated by George Kennedy, CEO, and a member of the SBHI board of directors. All Midlands members, friends, families, and interested parties are welcome to attend.
