New swim announced ahead of triAthlone

A new swim in the Shannon has been announced. A sister race to last year’s Flatline half marathon, the swim will take place on Saturday June 22, just weeks ahead of triAthlone.

The organisers announced the swim this week, and registration has already opened at athloneshannonswim.com

Starting at 6pm in the river Shannon the race has been dubbed the perfect warm-up to triAthlone which will happen on Saturday July 6 this year as the Flatline swim will take place in the same section of the river as the triAthlone swim.

Whether you are new to swimming, looking for a taste of the open water, or are interested in a new challenge, the Flatline swim is the perfect opportunity to test your swimming prowess.

The Flatline swim is a one mile swim in the river Shannon. The race will start underneath the N6 bypass; participants will then swim upstream for 100 metres, around a buoy, keeping it to their right and then let the power of the Shannon catch hold for the remaining 1,500 metres powering their way to the finishing point just behind Athlone Castle.

Sean’s Bar, Ireland’s oldest tavern, are on board to help generate a great atmosphere!

Entries will be capped at just 300 swimmers so early registration is vital to avoid disappointment.
