This coming Easter weekend, Saturday March 30 and Sunday March 31, the town of Athlone is preparing to be ‘all shook up’, as the Elvis - Born To Rock festival is set to roll into town, proudly presented by the Elvis - The Wonder Of You Fan Club in Athlone, with some top class entertainment on show.
The weekend kicks off with an Elvis Sails cruise on board the River Run boat with an Elvis disco and bar, admission for this is by ticket only which is €10 per person, and can only be booked through the fan club as there is limited capacity on board. The boat departs St Peter’s Dock at 3pm sharp on March 30.
On Saturday night at the Sheraton a four-piece rockabilly band Mystery Train will be playing all the hits of Elvis and more, with doors opening at 8pm and admission €10 payable on the door, followed by a rockin’ Elvis disco.
Sunday afternoon there will be an Elvis table quiz at 2.30pm, costing €20 per table of four and this will be followed by a movie screening, which will be decided by people attending Saturday night’s show.
And then the stage is set for the main event of the weekend, Cíaran Houlihan (European Elvis Champion 2012 ), and the fantastic Elvis Spectacular Band with the Sweet Sensations in a pulsating two hour Elvis tribute show, which has been delighting audiences nationwide. This will be followed by an amazing Elvis video disco with DJ Speedway Jim all the way from Edinburgh; indeed there are people expected from every corner of Ireland for this amazing weekend. Tickets for the main event on Sunday night, March 31 can be purchased at €20 from the Sheraton Athlone on (090 ) 6451000, or from Sinead in St Hilda’s at (090 ) 6475825. Door prize on the night will be a 42” Samsung LED TV. All proceeds from this weekend will benefit a very worthy cause indeed in St Hilda’s Summer Camp, which brings intellectually and physically disabled children on various outings and activities.
