Awards haul for Midlands-based choir

The Tullamore Academy Chamber Choir, which is under the auspices of The Academy of Music Tullamore, claimed three prizes last week at the Kiltimagh Choral Festival under their conductor Ciarán Brady.

The choir had a long and busy day competing in three competitions against some of Ireland’s best known choirs.

The Academy Chamber Choir started the day on a high when they came second in the Sacred Music competition. Delighted with this achievement they went on to compete in the Irish Language competition which they in turn won! With only half an hour to enjoy their well deserved victory the choir threw themselves straight into their next competition - Mixed Voice Choirs. Again they did the Midlands proud and took second place in this category. All of this is on the back of taking second place out of over 400 choirs in the RTÉ Lyric FM Choirs for Christmas competition which invites choirs from all around the country to share their music making with Lyric listeners throughout the Christmas season.

These awards are further additions to what has been an unprecedented year for the choir, and are testimony and recognition to the choir’s huge commitment (as current holders of the National Choir of the Year award ) to pursuing and displaying choral excellence on a nationwide platform.

This is a huge honour for the Tullamore Academy Chamber Choir.

This run of success has been a magnificent accomplishment for the choir and ranks them now among the top choirs in the country. All details about the choir are on www.theacademyofmusic.ie
