Westmeath County Council launches art competition

Westmeath County Council has launched an art competition for primary and secondary schools in the county. The winning entries will be printed in a schools academic calendar September 2013 - June 2014. The lucky students who win, will receive a €25 shopping voucher and a workshop for their school.

Ruth Maxwell, environment department said, “The workshops are environmental awareness workshops and educational workshops to raise awareness of litter and its effects on the environment”. She continued that “A living larder vertical veggie will be won also by one lucky school - this will allow a school to grow vegetables, fruit, herbs etc in confined areas or areas covered in concrete”.

These workshops are funded by the county council in conjunction with the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government and are part of the council’s environmental awareness programme. They are organised to assist schools in their Green Schools programme and complement the school’s curriculum.

The closing date for entries is Thursday February 28.
