Two lucky Westmeath supporters line out as jersey guardians for Irish rugby team

Two lucky Westmeath rugby fans were among the 23 supporters who lined out as official O2 jersey guardians for the Ireland team ahead of the game against England at Aviva Stadium last weekend.

The Westmeath jersey guardians were Laura Harran from Kilbeggan, jersey guardian for Donnacha Ryan, and Trevor Nicholson, from Athlone and Buccaneers RFC, jersey guardian for Donncha O’Callaghan.

Jersey guardians gives supporters the chance to deliver the player’s jerseys to the Irish dressing room ahead of the game. The lucky winners collected the jerseys from the team hotel that morning where they met with Irish rugby legends Paul O’Connell and Mick Galwey. At the stadium they were greeted by Ireland team baggage master, Rala, and given exclusive access to the team dressing room where they had the honour of hanging the jerseys at each player’s individual area.
