Planning progresses on Castledaly graveyard

Local councillor John Dolan this week welcomed the fact that the extension to Castledaly graveyard is to progress to the part 8 planning process.

Cllr Dolan raised the issue at the recent Athlone Area meeting, asking when the extension to Castledaly graveyard would be open for burials.

In response Athlone town clerk Hugh O’Reilly told Cllr Dolan that following advertisement in the local press and public consultation, the manager’s report should be brought before the March meeting of Westmeath County Council, and subject to approval of part 8, the development of the cemetery extension should take place in summer 2013.

Welcoming the news, Cllr Dolan thanked the council for progressing the planning process.

“I want to thank the county manager Danny McLoughlin who met me in 2008 on site and has given his backing to this project since. I also want to thank Hugh O’Reilly and Johnny Conlon for the way that they have worked with the people of the area to make the best use of the present graveyard while we await the opening of the extension,” said Cllr Dolan.

“It is only right that people from the locality who wish to be buried in Castledaly should have a graveyard where they can be laid to rest in a dignified way, and hopefully the new extension will allow this to happen,” said Cllr Dolan.
